Voice Activated ! Responds to Your Commands ! Here’s your shot at owning and commanding your very own Dalek from Doctor Who! In addition to traditional radio-control functions via the multifunction control unit, this hard-to-believe, 18-inch, interactive Dalek actually responds to spoken commands. With independent head, body, and eye movement– as well as multiple sensory inputs that include touch– maybe this really is the “supreme being in the universe”! The plastic Dalek also features several built-in operating modes, including voice-programmable movement, “seek locate,” static and roving room guard, and “follow me”… where it will find and track a moving object. In addition, it remembers and reacts to Doctor Who characters, and will even play a game to find the Doctor if he’s hiding!
Doctor Who – 18” Voice Control / Voice Interactive Supreme Black Dalek Reviews
Being a huge Doctor Who fan and a toy geek, I fell in love with this guy immediately and had to buy it. It is a beautiful piece of work- the amount of detail is amazing, and it quite heavy, even before adding the batteries. The operation itself is good, but a bit confusing at first. There is a voice command structure that takes a bit to learn. READ THE MANUAL!! Once you do, you can command the Dalek to do several types of actions, including identifiying characters, roaming guard (which will EXTERMINATE anything in its sensor range if the correct code word is not given within 15 seconds), and stationary guard (which will do the same thing, but stay in position). If you don’t feel like verbally commanding the Dalek, there is a remote control you can use, which controls not only the movement of the Dalek, but the angle of the eye stalk and the position of the head, which turns 270 degrees. There is also a button to make the Dalek speak, and it has a pretty extensive vocabulary- around 30 phrases. The eye stalk, EXTERMINATOR and the ears all light up with the speach, or as an acknowledgement of a command. Very nice.
My one major complaint about it is that compared to the gorgeous detail of the Dalek, the remote control is extremely cheap looking but it gets the job done. Also, be aware it takes lots of batteries- 4 AA, 4D and a 9V for the remote. Another minor detail is that the arms do not move automatically, but you can position them yourself and move them around as you wish.
