Interactive Toy Concepts BladeRunner BlackGhost 2CH IR Control Helicopter Reviews
I got this as a Christmas present today and I’m loving it. Came out of the box with enough of a charge to play with it right away, and while I’m old enough to handle waiting (25 yrs) it was still nice to not have to. I crashed right away the first several flights, then had to let it charge up, about 20 min for a full charge. After the third charging I had the controls down pretty well. I can make smooth landings on tables or onto someone’s hand. I haven’t tried putting a weight on the front yet, but I’m sure I will before long. It does move around well enough without the weight though.
This is my first flying RC toy, and it seems to be holding up well so far. If you fly too close to the ceiling it sort of forms a suction and won’t drop away will you let off the lift enough that it falls to the floor. But even when stuck on the ceiling, letting it down all 9 feet to the floor it’s survived without a scratch. I’ve also knocked it into chairs and made sideways landing onto the floor and it’s still just fine. I have a feeling I’ll need replacement parts eventually, but not for a while.
Seems well worth the list price to me.
Edit: After about 4 days of playing with this the tail rotor that controls left and right direction has stopped working. I sent an E-mail to the manufacturer and they asked me to call a number. Their phone system is a bit odd, but after waiting on hold for two minutes or less I spoke to a real live American-English speaking person who is shipping me replacement parts completely free of charge. I called on Wednesday and they say the parts will ship on Friday. I’ll come back and edit again once parts are received.
For a mere $30, this helicopter is hard to beat. The twin contra-rotating main rotors cancel out the torque/spin effect and make this chopper easier for beginners than comparable products that have only one main propeller. Some people have reported trim/spin issues, but when I flew this thing it needed no trim at all and the trim control was always set to neutral.
As far as foam-bodied rc choppers go, this thing is fairly durable. It has survived mid-air attacks from a cat, as well as hard crash landings and collisions with wall fixtures, and it still flies. Once I flew it into the ceiling fan, and it lost one of the lower blades, and even with only 7 main blades instead of 8, the chopper STILL FLEW! Replacing the broken main blade was pretty easy, and the replacement blade kit is also inexpensive.
The chopper has left/right turn control, and up/down control, which is all you should expect for the price and size. Add a small paperclip to the nose and it will have a constant forward motion to it, and it only took me a little bit of practice to get the thing to go where I wanted it to go.
Ive seen it fly for about 4-6 minutes per battery charge, again this is not bad for the price and size. Recharging is simple to do and doesn’t take long. A 15 minute recharge is pretty quick in my opinion.
I like this rc helicopter quite a bit, and I would recommend it to anyone. I was very satisfied with this helicopter for the price, especially because of the contra-rotating main rotors that cancel out the torque/spin effect. Lots of fun and easy for beginners!
I bought this for my 6 year old son and he just loves it. It is actually pretty easy to fly. The battery lasts around 5 minutes which is actually plenty of time. You typically don’t fly for 5 minutes straight so it seems to last longer than you’d expect it to. The toy seems to be pretty well put together and hasn’t come apart yet even though we’ve had a couple of rough crashes. In reading these reviews I’d say that our experience is on par with the two reviewers who had decent things to say. I’ve read a lot of reviews on various helicopters and it is clear that these things are fragile and prone to varrying manufacturing quality. If you keep in mind that you must be very careful with it you will probably do well. If your son or daughter tends to break every toy they get after one day then you will probably be disappointed. Treat it well and it will treat you well. We bought this at Macy’s for $29.99 and it is the best money we spent this Christmas.
