Fun variation on 20 Questions
This game is a lot of fun and gets kids to work their brains without realizing it. It includes a set of adjustable plastic headbands that fit anyone from around age 4 to adult, each of which has a clip to hold one of the picture cards. It also includes a sand timer, the idea being that on your turn, you try to guess as many cards as you can before time runs out. You can just leave out the timer and take turns when playing with young children. Most of the pictures are pretty basic animals and objects — the most esoteric card is probably the unicorn — so kids and adults can play together, even some pre-readers. (Of course, adults can make up their own sets of cards if the included set gets old, or just use object cards from other games, such as Apples to Apples.) Note that the rules do not specify that the questions must have yes/ no answers (in fact they state that you can ask any question other than “what am I?”), but the sample question cards only contain yes/ no questions. Generally this game should be played using only yes/ no questions, although of course a little flexibility is OK when playing with younger children. Note that care should be taken with small kids, because while the cards are pretty sturdy, they’re not *that* sturdy
Intense fun
Very creative way to work on language development for my 3 and 7 year old! The “hedbanz” aspect was the hook, the manner and method of using descriptive language helped bring my shy 3-year-old out of his shell, and “use his words” in a fun fashion. A spin on “20 questions” that works due to the novelty of the box, pieces, and “head band.” My kids were engaged for several hours, and ask for this frequently as an after-dinner activity or when friends visit.
I really think that the rules should be thought out a bit – with really little kids, timing just doesn’t work (they get obsessed with the timer.) Agree with another poster that taking turns makes much more sense.
Recommended.
Too much family fun
We purchased this for my 8 year old daughter’s birthday and have had such a great time with it. Our family of 7 played it the night of the party (one sat out and had help from Daddy) and we haven’t laughed so hard in a long time! I highly recommend this for lots of laughing and family fun.
