Stampede VXL RTR with 2.4 Radio Reviews

Simply blown away

I’ve been out of the car / truck RC circle for over 20 years. My last car was an RC-10 Graphite (shows my age). I decided to back to RC cars and get away from helicopters. I’m obviously not cut out for them so, I’ll stay on the ground.

After some research and talking to some buddies, I decided to purchase the Stampede VXL. I know I wanted the brushless technology and, the 2.4Ghz transmitter was a nice plus and, the under $500 price tag was the breaking point. That and the Traxxas name was a no-brainer. I decided to buy the 7.4V, 4000mAh Li-Po battery and Triton 2 electronic charger. This pushed the price up just under $500.

I got everything home and in less that 2 hours, I was on the street terrorizing the neighborhood dogs. I was blown away with the speed of this truck and the bashing it can take. It’s so easy to operate, my wife was able to operate it (her first time ever with RC anything!) I’ve had it in sand, mud, leaves and the street. When everything was done, sprayed it off with a hose and dried it with compressed air…got to love the waterproofing.

I only give this truck 4 stars under durability due to I haven’t had it that long. If it keeps taking the abuse I’m giving it, I’ll come back and give it 6 stars…if I could.

I am very pleased with my purchase.

Brushless is worth the extra money

This is the second Stampede truck in the family. The first was a basic XL-5 model, which is a great truck and my son loves it. But for older more experienced drivers you cannot beat the sheer power of the brushless motor system in this truck. I purchased a pair of 8 cell 9.6V batteries NIMH batteries and using one it is impossible to start this truck with anything over a tiny pull on the throttle. Full throttle launches on pavement result in this truck jumping up onto one rear wheel. Besides the power boost, the 2.4 radio system included means no worries about channel crystals. Other included upgrades over the standard Stampede include in the box wheelie bar (a neccesity) and more adjustments on the steering and suspension. All in all this truck is super dependable, super fast and if you really want, you can make the move to Lipo batteries. Sorry no video, I have been too busy just running this thing. Thanks Traxxas for making a great product.

worth every penny

I first bought my 11 yr old daughter an xl5 stampede, had so much fun on the first run (charged and broke it in before I gave it to her) that within 3 days I bought the vxl. This is an educational toy, because if you’re not careful, you’re going to have to learn how to fix it. It is a very tough little truck but it’s hard not to run the vxl full on, which doesn’t bode well with alot of rock landscaping in your yard. Replacement parts are cheap (2 to 5 bucks for plastic front end components) and they’re actually fun to work on, most repairs take about ten minutes. I actually have a stock of replacement parts and extra batteries already. There is a price to pay for pushing one to the limit all the time, you will miscalculate and hit something. Never had any engine, transmission, or other electrical problem. Plan on buying a peak charger and a higher milliamp battery, it changes everything. Brushless motor runs at peak power nearly twice as long as the xl5.
